Character | Age Range | Description |
Helen Keller | Girl, 8-12 (or child actor who can appear in this range) | Helen is deaf, blind, and mute. She is trapped within her own world unable to communicate. She is almost uncontrollable as she has been blind and deaf since birth. She is involved in INTENSE physical scenes that will be choreographed by a certified fight director. |
Annie Sullivan | Female, 20-30s | Annie is Helen’s teacher. A strong and vibrant woman, she is determined to connect Helen to the world. She has a challenging past that makes her undeterred by Helen’s overprotective parents. Irish accent is a plus. She is involved in INTENSE physical scenes that will be choreographed by a certified fight director. |
Captain Arthur Keller | Male, 40-50+ | Helen’s father. A captain, he is stern, but devoted to his family. He struggles to connect to young Helen, but is loving nonetheless. |
Kate Keller | Female, 20-30+ | Helen’s mother. She is tormented by Helen’s perceivably insurmountable disability. She coddles Helen. She is the captain’s younger, second wife and a fiercely devoted mother. |
James Keller | Male, 20+ | Helen’s half-brother, the captain’s son by his deceased, first wife. Indolent and resentful of the attention Helen gets from their father, he believes it is best for a Helen to be put in an asylum. |
Aunt Ev | Female, 50-60+ | Helen’s aunt. A talkative, opinionated woman, she is the catalyst for the Keller’s hiring Annie. |
Anagnos/Doctor | Male, 40-50 | Annie’s counselors the Perkins School for the Blind. A dear and kind man, he is Annie’s mentor and friend. Doubles as doctor. |
Viney | Black female, 30-50 | A servant in the Keller home. Cheerful and loving towards the Keller children. |
Martha | Black Female, 8-13 | Viney’s daughter. Playmate of Helen. |
Percy | Black Male, 8-13 | Viney’s son. Playmate of Helen. |
Blind Girls | 3 Girls, 10+ | Students of the Perkins School for the Blind. |
