Freaky Friday – CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Description

Katherine Blake

30s-40s Female

Elle’s mom.  Overwhelmed, perfectionist, loving but controlling, high-energy.  Must be able to portray Ellie Blake as well, and portray her trying to be Katherine.

Ellie Blake

16-18 Female

Katherine’s daughter.  Smart, sarcastic, emotional, rebellious buy deeply caring.  Must be able to portray Katherine Black as well, and portray her trying to be Ellie.

Mike

30s-40s Male

Katherine’s fiancé.  Warm, goofy, optimistic, trying hard to connect.

Fletcher

8-12 Any Gender

Katherine’s son, Ellie’s brother.  Mischievous, funny, high-energy.  Fletcher controls 2 puppets and must be able to vocalize each.  One is like a monster, the other is a proper British boy. Voice should not have changed yet.

Adam

16-18 Male

The List Master, and Ellie’s potential boyfriend.  Sweet, awkward, sincere.

Torrey

20s-60s Female

Katherine’s assistant.  Confident yet high-strung, sarcastic, loyal best friend.

Gretchen

16-18 Female

One of Ellie’s best friends.  Dry, sarcastic, observant.

Hannah

16-18 Female

One of Ellie’s best friends.  Intense, high-strung, overachiever.

Savannah

16-18 Female

Ellie’s nemesis. mean-girl energy, confident, poised.

Ensemble

16-60

Ensemble actors will be featured multiple times and each will very likely play multiple roles some of which lead entire songs.

Some ensemble actors will be playing only teenage characters, some will be playing only adult characters, some will be playing both.

All ensemble actors must be able to move well, but those who will portray teenagers will also need to dance well.

SPECIAL NOTES FOR AUDITIONERS

  • 16 bars of a song in the style of the show
    • An accompanist will be provided
    • Please bring sheet music in the proper key
  • Sides will be provided for a brief monologue 
    • You may be asked to read multiple times 
  • You will learn and dance a small combination
    • Wear comfortable clothes
  • Auditions for the part of Fletcher (see character descriptions above) will be held the first hour of each audition day
  • Other than the role of Fletcher, all auditioning must be at least 16 years old
  • In person auditions preferred. Video submissions will be accepted as long as you are able to attend callbacks, if needed.
  • Video submissions must include 16 bars of a song in the style of the show and an up to 30 second monologue delivered twice with completely different characterizations.

All potential rehearsal conflicts need to either be listed on your audition form or attached to the form.
