The year is 1968. The Cold war between the U.S.A and the U.S.S.R is on. The area of Eastern Europe is in the grips of Soviet Communism. Tensions between East and West are at its height. In this troublesome spot of the world enter the Hollanders. Woody Allen creates an array of funny and complex characters that range from a Magician Priest to the bumbling Ambassador's son. So come on, take a fun trip into the past and see how America won the Cold War.

Paul Bratter, a conservative young lawyer, marries a vivacious young woman, Corrie. Their highly passionate relationship descends into comical discord in a five-flight New York City walk-up apartment.

The scene is a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by "Froggy" LeSeuer, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So "Froggy," before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English.
